Next up under our customer spotlight is Graeme @strathblane_falconry who kindly shared with us his Falconry journey and memorable moments.
How did you start your Falconry journey?
My Falconry journey started as a gift voucher for a days hunting over 25 years ago. Now I run my own Falconry business, Strathblane Falconry, which has been running for 20 years this year and consists of 20 birds. I offer hands-on experiences and I also do event work, photography, TV/film work as well some pest control.
What was your first bird?
The first bird I ever owned was the first bird I bought for my business, a Turkmenian Eagle Owl who I still have and will be 20 this year!
What is your favourite bird to fly and why?
I have flown lots of birds over the years and I like many for different reasons. A favourite would have to be Lobey, my Turkmenian Eagle Owl, who I have had since he was 12 days old and is now 20 years old. He was the first bird I ever owned and the first bird of Strathblane Falconry. He flies great and is very responsive. He is always a joy to work with.
What is the most memorable moment you have experienced in Falconry so far?
On my first ever day out with a bird of prey, I went hunting and caught an 8lb hare!
What part of Falconry do you most enjoy and why?
The flying just because that's what birds of prey are meant to do. There can be something very calming about being out just you and the bird.
What is your dream bird to fly and why?
I would love to fly a Pere x Prairie Falcon again. I flew one for 2 years and I just loved the attitude and temper.
For those new to Falconry or thinking about getting started, what would be your most valuable advice?
Listen to what people tell you!
